Box Score Ettrick, VA – Even though the Shaw University volleyball team saw their nine-match streak come to an end, the Lady Bears still had a successful outing at the second Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up of the season held at the VSU Multi-Purpose Center in Ettrick, VA October 16-17.
Shaw came away with a 3-1 win over rival St. Augustine's University in the first match on Saturday. The Lady Bears won by scores of 25-21, 25-14, 20-25, and 25-11. Mallory Brown led Shaw in kills with 16 during the match. Breelyn Clark added 33 assists while Kaylin Evans paced the Lady Bears with 14 digs on defense.
The Lady Bears then made easy work of Livingstone College with a 3-0 sweep. The set scores were 25-16, 25-17, and 25-21 in the third and final set. It was Brown again who topped the Lady Bears in kills with 12. Clark finished with 30 assists while Evans came away with seven digs. Nine different Lady Bears registered digs during the match.
In a rematch of the 2019 CIAA Championship match, Shaw fell 3-0 to Fayetteville State University being swept for just the first time since their second match of the season back on September 7. Shaw battled tough the whole match falling in extras in the first set 27-25. FSU completed the sweep with wins of 25-18 and 25-15.
Shaw returns to action Thursday, September 21 as the Lady Bears will travel to Richmond, VA to take on the Virginia Union University Panthers. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.
