Box Score Both teams traded two punts to start the game. Livingstone took advantage of a Christian Peters interception adding a 40-yard field goal with 2:05 left in the first quarter making the score 3-0 in favor of Livingstone.
The Bears had their second turnover of the game with a fumble at the Livingstone 30-yard line. The Shaw defense held once again forcing another punt. Shaw made a change at quarterback entering Torrin Campbell. Campbell found Sidney Gibbs out the backfield on the first play of the drive for a 40-yard touchdown. Devin Versteegen added the PAT putting the Bears ahead 7-3 with 7:50 left before the break.
The Blue Bears took a short kickoff down to the Shaw three-yard line which ended in the Bears defense holding Livingstone out of the end zone on fourth down making the score 7-3 at halftime with Shaw in the lead.
The second half started out great for Shaw with the defense forcing a three and out followed by a blocked punt from Jatoine Fields at the LC 35-yard line. The momentum was short-lived as Livingstone picked off a Campbell pass and returned it to the Blue Bears 38-yard line. The Shaw special teams made another play after another three and out blocking the next punt. Andre Brandon was credited with the block and recovery.
The Shaw offense used the second block to their advantage as Campbell found Ah'Shaan Belcher in the end zone on fourth and six for a 15-yard score putting Shaw ahead 14-3 with 8:09 left in the third. LC took the ball going on a drive that went into the beginning of the fourth quarter which saw the Shaw defense hold on fourth and goal.
Shaw padded their lead with a 45 yard, 11 play drive that took 4:19 off the clock making the score 20-3 with 5:48 left in regulation. Livingstone added a late touchdown making the score 20-9. Dast Sturkie recovered the ensuing onside kick to secure the division win.
Gibbs led the Bears rushing attack with 78 yards. Brandon followed with 77 yards and one touchdown. Belcher led in receiving with 49 yards with Gibbs adding 40. Both had scoring receptions. Kareem Butler paced the Shaw defense with 10.5 tackles followed by Devon Hunt with 8.5.
Shaw returns home for homecoming against Johnson C. Smith next Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. inside Baker Stadium on the campus of Southeast Raleigh High School.
