BEARS FALL TO CATAWBA, 6-1

SALISBURY, N.C. – Shaw University men's tennis (1-3) suffered a 6-1 loss to Catawba College (1-2), 6-1 on Monday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center.

The Bears lone point came from senior Deigo Nino (Bogota, Columbia) who battled hard in a three-set decision as he was able to edge out his opponent, 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 at the No. 6 singles.

Shaw came close in doubles action, highlighted by a win at the No. 3 doubles as sophomore Ilya Skobelev (Lelyshenko, Rostov-on-Don) and senior Destiny Udofe (Brampton, ON) earned a 6-4 victory but the Indians would claim wins at the No. 1 and 2 doubles by the scores of 6-4 and 6-2.

Shaw won't return to action until Mar. 11 with a home contest against Fairmont State at 3 p.m. from Worthdale Park.
