BEARS TENNIS EARNS 5-2 WIN AT AVERETT

DANVILLE, Va. – The Shaw University men's tennis team earned a 5-2 win over Averett University Sunday afternoon on the road, marking its second consecutive win on the season.

Shaw took a one point lead after doubles competition, securing wins in the No. 1 and 2 slots by the scores of 6-3 and 7-5.

In singles play, junior Diego Leal (Bucaramanga, Columbia) earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 1 slot, while senior Ngonidzash Makambwa (Mabelreign Harare, Zimbabwe) picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victor at the No. 2 position. Senior Daniel Ac (Kikinda, Serbia) was a victor at the No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 frame and junior Destiny Udofe (Brampton, ON) claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 5 singles to help the Bears to its second-straight win.

Shaw will return to action Mar. 24 against Virginia State for a home contest. First serve is slated for 10 a.m. at Lions Park.
