RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's volleyball team stretched its win streak to seven and made quick work of Winston-Salem State University by a 3-0 margin Tuesday night inside the historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.

The Lady Bears improve to 13-8 overall. The Rams fall to 13-9 on the season.

Shaw seized control right away, reeling off a 10-6 run before orchestrating a 10-7 span for a 20-14 lead. The Lady Bears closed out the set capitalizing on the Rams three errors in addition to two kills from senior Karla Sosa (Brownsville, TX) and a service ace from senior Jailynn Butler (Parker, AZ) for the 25-20 set win.

After a 6-6 tie in the second set, Shaw won the next four points to take a 9-6 lead. The Lady Bears then managed to push ahead by as many as seven points before scoring its set point on a service ace from Sosa to take a 2-0 lead within the match and a 25-17 set win.

The Lady Bears offense took a step back in the third set, only holding a 7-5 frame in kills but WSSU owned 11 errors compared to Shaw's four. With a 13-6 lead, Shaw registered a 9-3 run to take a commanding 23-9 lead before scoring the final two points on a kill from senior Amari Fletcher (Phoenix, AZ) and an attack error from the Rams.

Senior Tyler Hunter (Atlanta, GA) led the way with a match-high 11 kills, six digs and two service aces while sophomore and this week's CIAA volleyball setter of the week, Jada Flowers (Valrico, FL) dished out 24 assists and four digs. Graduate senior Emma Celentano (Raleigh, NC) recorded a match-high 15 digs.

Shaw now stands 8-1 in the South with an overall conference record of 13-1 and remains in the first place within the division. The Lady Bears return to action on Thursday, Nov. 7 at Saint Augustine's for a 6 p.m. division match.
