ETTRICK, VA – Shaw University football's two-game win-streak was snapped Saturday afternoon as the Bears fell 35-0 to Virginia State University in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) cross division contest at Rogers Stadium.

The loss dips the Bears to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the CIAA while the Trojans improve to 4-1 on the year and 2-0 in league action.

Shaw was held scoreless for the first time this season. The last time Shaw did not score in a game was on Sept. 22, 2018 at Campbell. The Trojans defense was strong the entire game, while its offense scored in three of the four quarters. For the contest, the Bears posted 187 total yards of offense (18 on the ground and 169 through the air) while VSU accounted for 406 offensive yards (248 rushing, 158 passing).

Junior quarterback Torrin Campbell (Toledo, OH) finished 18-of-45 in pass completions for 169 yards while freshman running back Sidney Gibbs (Black Mountain, NC) was limited to just 25 yards on 13 carries and 29 yards on five receptions.

Defensively, sophomore linebacker Justin Daniels (Wilson, NC) led the Bears with seven tackles while defensive end DeAngelo McMillian (Fairmont, NC) and senior defensive back Thurman Trapp (Columbia, SC) both contributed six tackles. Additionally, McMillian was credited with one sack and two tackle for loss.

Shaw will return to action Saturday, Oct. 12 at Fayetteville State University for its division opener. Kickoff is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
