BLUEFIELD, WV – The Shaw University men's tennis team suffered a 9-0 sweep at the hands of Bluefield State University on Friday afternoon before falling 6-3 to West Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon at the Bluefield City Tennis Courts.
Against the Big Blues (17-2), Shaw (9-4) was swept in the doubles portion and singles portion, three of which ended with 6-1, 6-0 scores. The closest singles match came in the No. 6 slot with Mauricio Gonzalez (Leon, Mexico) falling 6-2, 6-4.
On day two, the Bears received victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles with scores of 8-6 and 8-3 but captured just one win in the singles portion with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 victory for Diego Choque (Tarija, Bolivia) against Jacobo Rendon.
Shaw will return to action on Friday, April 22 for a makeup contest at Chowan at 3 p.m.
