Box Score Bluefield, W. Va. – The Shaw University women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 (25-9, 25-14, 21-25, 25-20) setback to the Lady Blues of Bluefield State University on Saturday, October 17th at the Ned E. Shott Gymnasium in a nonconference matchup.
Kelly Murphy (Mukwonago WI) led the Lady Bears at the net with 11 kills and seven digs, while Christine Ngeve-Evette (Greensboro, NC) led the setters with 19 assists, following Michelle Olmeda-Gonzalez (San Juan, PR) with 10.
Tiffany Brooks (Efland, NC) finished with a match-high 13 digs on the evening.
The Lady Bears (11-7 overall) saw themselves trailing 7-0 in the first set and only scored nine points – a set low to fall in set one. In the second set, SU came out more competitive against the Lady Blues (14-4 overall) but the Lady Bears rally fell short as they dropped the second consecutive set.
During the third set, SU came out the firing to build on a 11-8 lead en route to the victory before falling in the fourth set as both teams battled but BSU scored five unanswered points to seal the win.
Shaw will return to the court on Monday, Oct. 19th when they host Livingstone College in a CIAA divisional contest and their "Dig Pink" game. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.
