Box Score DURHAM, N.C. – Marquise Grizzle (Camden, NC) became the all-time leading scorer in school's history for the Shaw University football program, but the Bears dropped a 41-22 decision to the visiting Blue Bears of Livingstone College on Saturday, October 17th at Durham County Memorial Stadium.
Grizzle was tied with Raymond Williams for the most points scored at 192, he broke that record after rushing for a 22 yard touchdown in the second quarter to become the all-time leader in scoring.
Shaw scored one touchdown in the first quarter and another one in the second quarter to give the Bears a 14-0 lead but LC responded back quickly with three touchdowns of their own all in the second quarter to give the Blue Bears a 33-14 advantage going into halftime.
The Blue Bears (3-2, 2-2 CIAA) took a 41-14 lead in the third quarter before the Bears scored their last touchdown in the fourth after Terrence Shambry II (Chesapeake, VA) rushed for 14 yards in the endzone, before connecting with Andre Polite (Orangeburg, SC) for a two-point conversion with 17 seconds remaining in regulation.
The score cut the deficit to 19 points, however the Bears would run out of time as they fell to LC, 41-22.
The Bears was held to 193 total offensive yards (119 passing and 74 rushing), while the Blue Bears tallied 439 total offense (209 passing and 230 rushing).
Grizzle rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown for SU (0-7, 0-4 CIAA), while Shambry, II completed 18 of his 37 passing attempts for 113 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.
Defensively, Moses White (Gordan Heights, NY) finished with a game-high 12 tackles, including seven solo and five assisted. Roland Green (Bluffton, SC) and Keelan Jones (Kansas City, MO) both tallied eight tackles each.
The Bears will look to rebound against their next opponent, Johnson C. Smith University on Oct. 24th in Charlotte, NC.
