RALEIGH, N.C. - The Lady Bear volleyball team took Livingstone to five sets, but could not claim their first conference win, losing to the Lady Blue Bears 3-2 in a match played Monday night at C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.

With the loss, the Lady Bears drop to 1-16 on the season, 0-11 in the CIAA and 0-5 in the Southern Division.  Livingstone improves to 14-11, 5-8 in the CIAA and 2-4 in the division.

In the first set, the Lady Bears led most of the way, claiming a relatively easy 25-15 win. 

The second set proved more of a challenge as the Lady Blue Bears broke on top early and led by a 16-9 tally late in the set.  Shaw battled back, outscoring Livingstone 11-4 over the next few minutes to claim a 20-19 lead.  The two squads battled back and forth until Shaw came through with a 25-23 win.

Shaw seemed to run out of steam in the third, allowing Livingstone a 25-12 win.  The fourth set was a little closer, but still went to the Lady Blue Bears 25-18.

The fifth set got off to a good start for Shaw as they ran off three straight points before Livingstone managed to get on the scoreboard, and built it to a 5-1 lead before a Lady Blue Bear time out.   Livingstone battled back, though, tying the score at six.

Shaw continued to hold one- or two-point leads, until Livingstone went on a 4-1 run to capture a 13-11 lead.  Livingstone captured the next two points to take the set and the match.

Sashane Watson led Shaw with 16 kills.  Deja Simpson had nine.  Quianna Myers had 16 digs to lead the Lady Bears while Michelle Oliver paced the team with 28 assists.
