LINCOLN, Pa. - The Shaw volleyball team lost a tough five-set match to Bowie State Sunday to close out the first CIAA Volleyball Roundup with a 2-1 record. The Lady Bears drop to 5-4 with the loss ending a five-game winning streak.
Shaw won the first set 25-18, then dropped the second and the third 25-15 and 25-20, respectively. The Lady Bears roared back in the fourth with a 25-13 win before dropping the fifth-set tie break 15-10.
Shaye Walton led Shaw with 11 kills while Sashane Watson had 10 during the match. Courtnee Kelly had 20 assists and Watson had four service aces to lead Shaw. Watson also led the squad with 10 digs, while Crystal Gordon had four blocks.
The Lady Bears return home Thursday, September 20 when they host division rival Johnson C. Smith in a 6:00 p.m. match. All Shaw home games are held at C. C. Spaulding Gymnasium on the Shaw campus.
