RALEIGH, NC - Shaw dropped matches to visiting Chowan and Claflin in a tri-match played at C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium Saturday. The Lady Bears lost both contests 3-0.
With the losses, Shaw falls to 10-14 on the season. Neither contest was a CIAA match.
In the first game of the day, Chowan topped Shaw easily, winning 25-7, 25-14 and 25-12. Sashane Watson had nine kills to lead the Lady Bears while Shaye Walton had eight. Watson also had 11 digs to lead the team while Quianna Myers had ten. Courtnee Kelly paced the Lady Bears with 13 assists.
The Lady Bears fared a little better against Claflin, keeping most of the sets close. Claflin won 25-15, 25-17 and 25-12.
Walton led the Lady Bears in the second match with nine kills. Watson had eight digs and Courtnee Kelly 14 assists to lead Shaw.
The Lady Bears return to action Monday when they travel to Fayetteville State for a critical CIAA matchup. The match is at 6:00 p.m. On Thursday, Shaw returns home for their Senior Day matchup when they take on Saint Andrew's Presbyterian. First serve is at 6:00 p.m. at the C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium on the Shaw campus. Admission is free.
