Volleyball Falls to WSSU in Three Sets

Box Score

The Lady Bears could not find a rhythm until late in the third set, but that was too little too late as they fell in three straight sets - 25-16, 25-11, 25-17 - to Winston-Salem State.

After a rough second set, the Lady Bears came out in the third and held their own, tying the score at 4-4 early.  But midway into the set, the Lady Rams reeled off seven straight points to build an 11-4 lead.  From there, the Lady Bears matched WSSU point-for-point, but could not overcome that deficit.

Crystal Gordon led Shaw with five kills and nine digs.  Cortnee Kelly had 11 assists.  The Bears got one player - Jeneva Carner - back from injury in today's game, giving them seven healthy players on the roster.

The Lady Bears return to action Friday when they host Morris in a non-conference match at 6:00 p.m. in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.  On Saturday, the Lady Bears host a tri-match with Fayetteville State and Wingate.  Shaw will play at 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
