Gordon Leads Volleyball to 3-1 Win Over JCSU

Box Score

[Charlotte, NC] - It wasn't a one-woman show, but with only six healthy players on the roster, Shaw found itself bringing home only their second conference win on the shoulders of Crystal Gordon

In the 3-1 win over Johnson C. Smith, Gordon not only led the Bears in three offensive categories, but played a critical role in the Lady Bears' win in the fourth set.

The Lady Bears took the first set 25-14, dropped the second 25-15, but roared back to win the third 25-11.

In the fourth set, the Lady Bears found themselves down 19-16 and took a time out.  They regrouped, but still trailed at 23-20.  Gordon got the serve back for the Lady Bears with a massive kill, then proceeded to serve out the match, including two aces and another kill for the 25-23 win.

In the match, Gordon led Shaw with 17 kills and seven aces.  Shaye Walton had 11 kills.

With the win, Shaw improves to 3-13 on the season, 2-6 in the CIAA.  Johnson C. Smith drops to 4-11, 2-7 in the conference.

Shaw returns home Monday evening to take on Winston-Salem State at 6:00 p.m. in C. C. Spaulding Gymnasium.  The event is free and open to the public.
