Box Score [Charlotte, NC] - It wasn't a one-woman show, but with only six healthy players on the roster, Shaw found itself bringing home only their second conference win on the shoulders of Crystal Gordon.
In the 3-1 win over Johnson C. Smith, Gordon not only led the Bears in three offensive categories, but played a critical role in the Lady Bears' win in the fourth set.
The Lady Bears took the first set 25-14, dropped the second 25-15, but roared back to win the third 25-11.
In the fourth set, the Lady Bears found themselves down 19-16 and took a time out. They regrouped, but still trailed at 23-20. Gordon got the serve back for the Lady Bears with a massive kill, then proceeded to serve out the match, including two aces and another kill for the 25-23 win.
In the match, Gordon led Shaw with 17 kills and seven aces. Shaye Walton had 11 kills.
With the win, Shaw improves to 3-13 on the season, 2-6 in the CIAA. Johnson C. Smith drops to 4-11, 2-7 in the conference.
Shaw returns home Monday evening to take on Winston-Salem State at 6:00 p.m. in C. C. Spaulding Gymnasium. The event is free and open to the public.
