[RALEIGH, NC] - It was a good day to be wearing number one.
While Shaw said goodbye to senior Shandrea Thomas, it was the two number ones - Kathryn Tokarski for Saint Augustine's and Shaye Walton for Shaw - who stole the show as Saint Augustine's swept Shaw 3-0 in a match at C. C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
Tokarski finished the night with 19 kills, five aces and 12 digs to lead the Lady Falcons, while Walton had 12 kills and nine digs to lead the Lady Bears.
The loss closes out Shaw's season, where they went 4-27, 3-13 in the CIAA. The win closes out Saint Augustine's CIAA schedule and gives them a 12-16 overall record, 11-5 in the CIAA.
Saint Augustine's controlled the first set the entire way, jumping to an early lead and never letting Shaw back in the game.
In the second, Shaw jumped to an early lead, but critical blocks and kills by Tokarski brought the Lady Falcons back, finally taking the game with a 26-24 score.
While the Lady Bears kept it close in what became the final game, the Lady Falcons never relinquished control and shut out the match quickly.
Cortnee Kelly had 19 assists to lead the Lady Bears while Crystal Gordon had three service aces and nine kills of her own.
Roxanne Smith led the Lady Falcons with 27 assists. Brittany Hicks added nine kills to Tokarski's 19.
