(RALEIGH, NC) - The second set may have been a barn burner that brought the crowd to its feet repeatedly, but in the end, the Shaw Lady Bears dropped their division match against Saint Augustine's 3-0.
The Lady Bears (3-14, 3-13 CIAA, 0-9 Division) lost 16-25, 25-27, and 25-8 in the third. Saint Augustine's (21-2, 14-2 CIAA, 9-0 Division) remains undefeated in the division.
While the match was a loss for the Lady Bears, the thrilling second set showed flashes of brilliance and gave Lady Bears fans hope that this is the first step in a rebuilding process.
In the second, the Lady Bears broke on top 7-3, but slowly allowed the Lady Falcons to chip away until the game was tied at 10. The two teams then exchanged points until the 16-16 mark. Shaw then built a two-point, 18-16, lead.
The teams continued to exchange long rallies and points until Shaw had the serve for the win at 25-24. Saint Aug got the side out and reeled off two straight points to take the set, and the energy, from Shaw.
Seemingly deflated, the Lady Bears showed no life and quickly lost the third 25-8.
