Micah J. Dobson, Ph.D., has been serving as the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) for four years. Alongside his role as FAR, Dr. Dobson is an associate professor of recreation management and program coordinator in the School of Business & Professional Studies at Shaw University.
Dr. Dobson obtained his B.S. degree in Sport Management from Elizabeth City State University, followed by an M.S. degree in Parks, Recreation, Tourism, and Sport Management from NC State University, and a Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Sport Management from Northcentral University.
His research interests revolve around providing adequate after-school sport and recreational programming for at-risk youth, ensuring the success of first-generation collegiate athletes at HBCUs, mentoring youth in various structured sports, and developing therapeutic recreation programs for children with special needs. Dr. Dobson has published and presented extensively on these topics and actively advocates for social recreation, inclusion, and diverse programs in K-12 schools.
Dr. Dobson currently serves as a member of the 2024 NCAA Graduate Student Research Grant External Review Panel and has been chosen to participate in the 2024 NCAA Division II FAR Fellows Institute. Furthermore, he played a leading role in the 2024 CIAA Post Graduate Scholarship Committee, which awards scholarships to CIAA student-athletes for graduate school.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Dobson is happily married to Taina Roman-Dobson and shares his life with a dachshund Yorkie mix named Luke. During his leisure time, he enjoys traveling, boxing, and exploring new cuisines.
