Brennen Massenburg-Walters joins the Shaw University football staff as the Bears’ Defensive Line Coach, bringing a background of championship-level coaching and collegiate playing experience to the program.
Prior to arriving at Shaw, Massenburg-Walters served as the Defensive Line Coach at Wake Forest High School in Wake Forest, North Carolina. During his time with the program, both the varsity and junior varsity teams captured conference championships. Under his guidance, three defensive linemen earned All-Conference honors.
Before entering the coaching ranks, Massenburg-Walters played at Wake Forest-Rolesville High School before continuing his career at Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona.
At Pima, Massenburg-Walters established himself as one of the top junior-college defensive linemen in the country. He earned All-Conference honors during the 2015-16 season and was named to a JUCO defensive tackle watch list recognizing the nation’s top players at the position.
Massenburg-Walters was rated as a two-star prospect and was regarded as one of the highest-ranked junior-college defensive linemen in his recruiting class. He was also rated as the No. 1 junior-college defensive line prospect from the state of North Carolina.
His experience as both a highly recruited collegiate defensive lineman and a position coach who has helped develop All-Conference players gives Massenburg-Walters a strong foundation for developing Shaw’s defensive front.
