RALEIGH, N.C. — The Shaw University women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on Tuesday, blanking Johnson C. Smith University 4-0 in CIAA action at Worthdale Park.
The Lady Bears controlled the match from the outset, sweeping doubles play to secure the early point before carrying that momentum into singles competition.
In doubles action, the No. 1 tandem of Serena Teluwo and Camilla Martino set the tone with a 6-2 victory over JCSU's Manneni and Ramos. Shaw continued its strong play at No. 2 doubles, where Hailey Banda and Tanaka Garikai rolled to a 6-1 win against Bligen and Elshahat, clinching the doubles point for the Bears.
Shaw carried that energy into singles, where the Lady Bears quickly sealed the match. At No. 1 singles, Teluwo posted a convincing 6-3, 6-3 win over Manneni. Martino followed with a 6-3, 6-0 decision at No. 2 singles, while Garikai secured the match-clinching point with a 6-5, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles.
Additional strong efforts came from Banda at No. 4 singles, who split sets before play was halted, and Alla Antonyan at No. 5 singles, who was in control with a 7-1, 6-1 lead. Veronika Philippova also held a 1-0 advantage at No. 6 singles before the match was decided.
With the win, Shaw continues its strong run in conference play improving to 8-0 in CIAA action.
