RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University Department of Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Dr. Americus Williams as its new Head Athletic Trainer. Williams will lead the University's sports medicine program, overseeing the health, wellness, and rehabilitation of Shaw's student-athletes across all 13 varsity sports.

"His knowledge, leadership, and passion for student-athlete health will be important as we continue to enhance the support we provide to our student-athletes."
Dr. Williams played collegiate football at NC Wesleyan College for one year before transferring to Shaw University to play baseball. He was a three-year starter on the men's baseball team from 2010-2013.
Dr. Williams is a 2014 graduate of Shaw University's Athletic Training program; a year after graduation, Dr. Williams was a summer/preseason intern for the New York Giants. He received his Masters of Science in Athletic Training from Indiana Wesleyan University and his Doctorate of Athletic Training from A.T. Still University. During his attendance at A.T. Still University, Dr. Williams started an applied research project titled "Perceptions of Leadership Opportunities and Effectiveness Among Athletic Trainers: A Comparison Across Racial and Ethnic Groups" that was published this year.
Dr. Williams' experience as an athletic trainer consists of secondary schools, military, industrial, collegiate and professional sports settings. Williams was also featured on the cover of FCCLA (Family Career Community Leaders of America) national magazine as a middle school state officer.
Dr. Williams is a proud husband and father of Irish twins. He is a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.
