Shaw Volleyball Dominates at CIAA Roundup, Finishing 3-0

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Shaw University's volleyball team showcased their talent and teamwork at the CIAA Roundup this past weekend held at WSSU, finishing with a perfect record of 3-0. 

Shaw came away with a 3-0 win over Lincoln (PA), 3-1 victory over Bowie State before closing out the weekend with a 3-0 sweep over Virginia Union.  With the wins Shaw improves to 12-2 overall and 7-0 in CIAA action.

Lady Bears vs Lincoln (PA) 
Talia Emmen finished with 15 kills on the day to lead the Lady Bears offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .545.Kamille Patrick also pitched in with five in the contest. got 4 digs from Nayara Pereira to lead them defensively. 

SET 1 | The Lady Bears took control on the first point and held the lead the rest of the way to secure the first set 25-3. Shaw opened up its biggest lead, 22 points, to close out the set. Shaw also supplemented their offense with six aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Shaw put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-18 victory in set number two. Strong serving helped the Lady Bears earn the set-two victory. Shaw recorded five aces in the set win. The Lady Bears ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza.

SET 3 | Shaw then capped the three-set sweep with a victory in set number three. The Lady Bears scored first and never trailed in the set to secure a 25-11 victory. Shaw opened up as much as a 15 point lead at 17-2 before closing out the set. The Shaw offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.

Lady Bears vs Bowie State

The Bears offense was paced by Amari Earl, who finished with 13 kills on the day. Talia Emmen added 12 and Kamille Patrick chipped in with 10 as part of balanced Shaw attack. got 14 digs from Kalia Morris to lead them defensively.

SET 1 | The Lady Bears took control of the set-one lead at 2-1 and never trailed to win 25-18. Shaw opened up its biggest lead, seven points, to close out the set, totaling 16 kills . Shaw also supplemented their offense with five aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | Shaw then fell in the second set 27-25, evening the match at a set apiece. The Lady Bears fell in a tight second set, losing in a stanza that was tied 12 times and had four lead changes.

SET 3 | Shaw then got back on the winning track, emerging victorious in set three and taking a two sets to one lead in the match. The Lady Bears took the set 25-14 helped by a solid showing on the attacking side. Shaw put together a .444 attack percentage with 16 kills in the set win. The Lady Bears opened up a 24-11 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there. The Shaw offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.

SET 4 | Shaw kept the momentum going, ending the match with a 25-22 fourth-set victory. A fantastic serving performance helped Shaw earn a victory in a set where they recorded five aces. The Lady Bears opened up a 23-18 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there. Shaw got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Bowie State attacks in the stanza.

Lady Bears vs Virginia Union


Talia Emmen finished with 16 kills on the day to lead the Bears attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .714. got nine digs from Amari Earl along with five blocks from Earl to lead them defensively. Shaw recorded a .506 hitting percentage on the way to a three-set win (25-15, 25-14, 25-5)

SET 1 | The Bears took control on the first point and never trailed to win the first set 25-15. Shaw opened up its biggest lead, 10 points, to finish off the set, collecting 15 kills in the process. Shaw also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | Shaw carried momentum from a set-one win by earning a 25-14 victory in set two. The Bears grabbed control of the set lead early on at 4-3 and never trailed. Shaw opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 11 points, to close out the set, totaling 15 kills while only registering two attack errors in the process. Shaw's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Virginia Union attacks in the stanza.

SET 3 | Shaw closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after taking set three. The Bears led from the opening point on in the set to earn a 25-5 victory. Shaw ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, 20 points, to close out the set, collecting 17 kills while only committing one attack error in the process. The Shaw offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

The Lady Bears return to action Thursday, October 10 as they host Livingstone College in a CIAA Southern Division matchup. First serve is scheduled for 6 PM inside C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
