DURHAM, NC — October 10, 2024 — The Shaw University women's soccer team claimed a decisive 5-2 victory over Allen University on Thursday, showcasing their dominance on the field. The win improves the Lady Bears' season record to 5-5 overall. 

The match began with Shaw setting the tone early. A rapid offensive push saw them take the lead within the first 25 seconds of the match with a goal from Abigaill Harrison. Forward Giovanna Coghetto followed that with her first hat-trick of the season with goals in the 1st, 5th and 6th minute to push the Lady Bears lead to 4-0 just six minutes into the match.

Shaw added a goal by Avirl Melilo in the 34th minute to make the score 5-0 at the half with over half of the Lady Bears seeing action in the first half. 

Allen added two late second half goals after the full bench was emptied by Shaw but still held on for the dominating home victory.

The Lady Bears out shot Allen 19-2 in total shots on the match while holding a huge gap in corner kick attempts at 9-1. 

Shaw returns to action Saturday, October 12 has they travel to Bluefield, WV to face the Bluefield State Big Blue. Kickoff is slated for 3 PM.
