Lady Bears Reach CIAA Tennis Finals

ETTRICK, Va. (April 21) – The Shaw women's tennis team is one match away from another CIAA championship.

The Lady Bears reached the CIAA finals after defeating Elizabeth City State 4-0 in the quarterfinals and Winston-Salem State 4-0 in the semifinals at the Virginia State Tennis Complex on Friday. The championship match takes place Saturday morning against Johnson C. Smith at 9:30 a.m.

A victory would give the Lady Bears their fifth straight CIAA title and 12th overall under Head Coach Sunday Enitan, who was named CIAA Women's Tennis Coach of the Year earlier Friday.

Against Elizabeth City State, the trio of Jessa Michieli, Chetna Kumari and Hafsa Sanhaji won by 6-0, 6-0 scores. The teams of Dana Moreno-Prerana Koirala, Anja Antonijevic-Sevval Ozseker and Michieli-Sanhaji each won 6-0 to score the doubles point.

Against WSSU, the trio of Koirala (6-0, 6-0), Antonijevic (6-1, 6-0) and Chetna Kumari (forfeit) were victorious in singles. The teams of Moreno-Koirala (6-0) and Michieli-Sanhaji (forfeit) gave the Lady Bears the doubles point.
