BLUEFIELD, W.V. – The Shaw University men's tennis team was blanked 7-0 at Bluefield State Friday afternoon. The Bears fought hard in doubles play but dropped all three matches to the Blues.
The setback concludes Shaw's 2021 campaign, 3-5 overall while Bluefield State improves to 8-6.
Notably in doubles, the duo of junior Ilya Skobelev (Lelyshenko, Rostov-on-Don) and junior Javier Godoy Gomis (Alicante, Spain) fell just short at the No. 3 doubles, 6-3. The Bears surrendered doubles 1 and 2 by the score of 6-1, respectively.
Despite the score, the Bears had three singles score at least two points.
Junior Romain Hennebelle (Montijny-Lengrain, France) fought hard in a 2-6, 4-6 decision at the No. 3 position. Other notable sets were at the No. 4 singles by sophomore Panashe Garah (Bedford, MA) who dropped 1-6, 3-6 while junior Martin Munoz (Bogota, Colombia) was defeated 1-6, 2-6 at the No. 1 slot.
