RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University men's tennis earned their second consecutive victory with a 6-1 win over Benedict Tuesday afternoon at Worthdale Park.
The win improved Shaw's overall record to 3-4 on the year winning while Benedict falls to a 0-2 mark on the year.
The Bears earned wins at the No. 2 doubles with the tandem of junior's Martin Munoz(Bogota, Columbia) and Ilya Skobelev (Lelyshenko, Rostov-on-Don) winning their match, 6-2. The No. 3 doubles was given to Shaw by default.
Shaw showed all gas no breaks in the singles competition. Junior Romain Hennebelle (Montijny-Lengrain, France) finished where he left off in his last outing - winning his match 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3 position. At the No. 4 spot, sophomore Panashe Garah held off his opponent getting the win 9-7 while at the No. 5 spot, junior Guillermo Franco (Sevilla, Spain ) ran away with the match against his opponent 8-0.
The Tigers clinched their lone point from in a three set thriller with Munoz falling 6-2, 6-7 and 8-10 at the No. 1 singles.
The Bears will look to wrap up their 2021 season with a pair of road matches at Bluefield State (Apr 16) and Bluefield (Apr. 17) Game times are set for 1 p.m. and 11 a.m.
