BEARS STUMBLE TO CHOWAN IN TIGHT 4-3 MATCH

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's tennis team dropped its fourth consecutive match on Tuesday afternoon, as the Bears were edged by Chowan University, 4-3 at Lions Park. The Bears won the doubles point but the Hawks won 4-of-6 singles competition.

 

Senior Ngonidzashe Makambwa (Mabelreign Harare, Zimbabwe) picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 2 singles and junior Gabe Munoz (La Paz, Bolivia) earned his second win of the season at the No. 6 singles by default.

 

The loss moves Shaw to 5-9 overall while Chowan improves their record to 7-12.

 

Looking ahead, competition will remain tough for Shaw as the Bears will close out the regular season with road matches at Bluefield State on Apr. 19, followed by a match with Concord on Apr. 20. Match times are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 10 a.m., respectively.
