RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 to Catawba College Monday afternoon at Lions Park. The loss dips the Bears to a 0-2 start for 2019 while the Indians improve to 3-2 on the season.

Shaw trailed 2-1 after doubles action with senior Daniel Ac (Kikinda, Serbia) and Diego Nino (Bogota, Columbia) registered a 6-4 win at the No. 2 doubles. The Bears was able to secure two wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles led by junior Diego Leal (Bucaramanga, Columbia) with 6-4, 6-2 victory while senior Ngonidzash Makambwa (Mabelreign Harare, Zimbabwe) fought hard for a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win. However, the Indians claimed victories at the No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 positions in addition to the No. 1 and 3 doubles.  

The Bears will return to action Wednesday, Feb. 20 at Pfeiffer for a tilt beginning at 3 p.m.
