BEARS FALL IN SEASON OPENER TO BARTON, 6-3

RALEIGH, N.C. – Wins by freshman Oscar Del Granado (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) and junior Ngonizashe Makambwa (Mabelreign Harare, Zimbabwe) at the No. 1 doubles coupled with a win at No. 1 and No. 2 singles but it would not be enough as the Shaw University men's tennis team fell to the visiting Barton College Bulldogs by a final of 6-3 at Worthdale Park Monday afternoon.

The Bears are now 0-1 on the season while the Bulldogs get their first win of the 2018 slate at 1-4 overall.

Starting with the doubles competition, junior Daniel Ac (Kikinda, Serbia) and sophomore Destiny Udofe (Brampton, ON) junior would fall at the No. 2 doubles by a final of 8-3 before junior Junior Bablola-Davies (London) and sophomore Enrico Baldon (Sao Paulo, Brazil) fell to their opponents by the score of 8-1 at the No. 3 slot.

In singles action, the Bears were responsible for two wins, including Del Granado's victory in three sets by scores of 3-6, 6-3 and 7-5, following Makambwa's 6-2, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 singles.

The Bears will return to action on Thursday, Mar. 8 at Johnson C. Smith. First serve is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
