MEN'S TENNIS SUFFERS TOUGH 5-4 LOSS AT FAIRMONT STATE

FAIRMONT, WV – The Shaw University men's tennis team suffered a 5-4 loss to Fairmont State Monday afternoon as the Bears fought hard to the end.

 

The Bears got off to a good start, taking a 2-1 lead in doubles before falling in the first four matches in singles competition to trail 4-3.

 

Guido Margiotta (Coronel, Suarez) secured a 6-1, 7-6 win at the No. 3 singles to tie the match at 4-4 as the contest would come down to the No. 5 position where Mauricio Gonzalez (Leon, Mexico) took his opponent three sets before falling, 1-6, 6-4, 0-6 that would give the Falcons (16-8) the edge.

 

Shaw (5-8) will conclude the regular season with a matchup versus Chowan on April 23 in Rocky Mount, NC. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
