DURHAM, NC – The Shaw University men's tennis team rallied to win two of three doubles matches and claim a 4-3 victory over Division I North Carolina Central University on Friday afternoon at the NCCU Tennis Courts. The win is the first win of the season over a Division I opponent.
With the win, Shaw improves to 9-2 overall while the Eagles drop to 4-13 to conclude the season.
In doubles, Daniel Ac (Kikinda, Serbia) and Bach Tran (Leipzig, Germany) defeated Gabriel Cucalon and Davide Callegari 6-4 to take the No. 1 doubles but the Eagles took a 6-1 win at the No. 2 doubles before Shaw won by defeault at the No. 3 doubles.
After dropping three straight singles, Guido Margiotta (Ceronel Suzarez, Argentina) rebounded for the Bears to take 6-7, 6-3 and 6-2 win at the No. 4 spot before Marico Gonzalez (Leon, Mexico) claimed a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Thomas Persico to secure the team win for Shaw.
Shaw will return to action on April 15 as they travel to Bluefield State University for a non-conference matchup. First serve is slated for 12 p.m.
