ROCKY MOUNT, NC– The Shaw University men's tennis team lost to the Hawks of Chowan University on Sunday afternoon in the finale conference match of the season by the final score of 7-2.
Junior Diego Choque (Tarija, Bolivia) grabbed the lone point in singles, defeating his opponent 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot. Two other singles sports were decided by tiebreaking sets: junior Bach Tran (Leipzig, Germany) at three singles and first-year Mauricio Gonzalez (Leon, Mexico) at six singles.
Choque and Javier Saez (Concepcion, Chile) combined for a win in the No. 2 doubles pairing, winning 8-5 for the Bears two points on the match.
Shaw will now await the announcement of the seeds for the CIAA Championship tournament that will be in Raleigh, NC at the Millbrook Tennis Center on April 28-30. With today's loss, the Bears will most likely be the No. 2 seed heading into the tournament.
