RALEIGH, N.C. - The Shaw men's tennis team improved to 3-1 on the season with a perfect 9-0 win over visiting Benedict.
Down a man, Benedict forfeited both the number three doubles and number six singles, but Shaw easily handled the Tigers, not losing a single set.
In doubles, Charles Silva and Serios Cuartas defeated Shane Latchman and Giovanni Plater 8-4, while Juan Sanchez and Bach Tran downed Takudswa Muswere and Juston Payton by an identical score.
In singles, the tighest match was at the top -- number one singles. Silva was forced to a tie breaker in the first set against Muswere, but he took the first 7-6 - with a 7-3 mark in the tiebreaker. Silva won the second set, and the match, by a 6-3 tally.
Cuartas easily handled Payton 6-1, 6-4, while Juan Sanchez - at number three singles - swept Latchman 6-0, 6-0.
At number four singles, Bach Tran defeated Flater 6-1, 6-1, and at number five singles, Gafur Sirojiddinov down Farrukh Edgerov 6-3, 6-2.
The Bears will travel to Petersburg, VA for a CIAA Roundup where they will play Virginia State and Chowan.
