RALEIGH, N.C. - The Shaw men's tennis team dominated visiting Johnson C. Smith, downing the Golden Bulls 7-2 in matches played at Biltmore Hills Park Wednesday afternoon.
The Bears won all seven contested matches, forfeiting the third doubles and sixth singles matches because they were short handed.
In doubles, the Bears swept number one and two doubles with identical 8-0 scores. Sergio Cuartas and Charles Silva downed Darrell Sawyer and Dion Chever 8-0, while Juan Sanchez and Samuel Padilla defeated Yusuf Barnes and Kia Brewington by the same tally.
The Golden Bulls did not press Shaw in singles, either. No Bear lost more than two games in the two sets played. Silva downed Sawyer 6-0, 6-2 at number one singles.
At number two, Cuartas downed Barnes 6-1, 6-1. Juan Sanchez swept the number three singles match 6-0, 6-0, while Andre Monti downed Brewington 6-0, 6-1.
Padilla closed out the singles sweept, downing Tuan Nguyen 6-0, 6-2.
The Bears are now off until April 1 when they travel to compete in the WVIAC/CIAA Challenge.
