(Raleigh, NC) – With four of six players celebrating their Senior Day in Shaw's last home game of the season, the Bears swept Chowan 9-0.
In the five singles matches played, the Bears dropped a total of only three games in ten sets. The two doubles teams dropped only one game combined.
With the win, Shaw - the region's fifth ranked team - is 18-6 and 11-0 in the CIAA. They have already clinched both the CIAA's Western Division title, as well as the best regular season record in the conference. Chowan drops to 0-10 and 0-7 in the CIAA.
Seniors Fabio Falcato and Milos Stankovic both swept their matches without dropping a game. Falcato defeated Bjorn Blythe 6-0, 6-0 while Stankovic dropped Levonte Perkinson 6-0, 6-0.
Medhi Ben-Cheikh defeated George Ziedan 6-1, 6-1 and Martin Faison (above) dealt a 6-0, 6-1 loss to John Timberlake.
The lone non-senior on the courts, junior Kalada Kienka, swept Charles Fisher 6-0, 6-0. One singles and one doubles match were forfeited by Chowan because they were a player short.
Falcato and Ben-Cheikh defeated Blythe and Perkinson 8-1 in the number one doubles slot, while Stankovic and Kienka defeated Fisher and Timerlake 8-0.
The Bears travel to Virginia State Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. match. Shaw defeated VSU 7-2 earlier this season. The Bears will begin play in the CIAA Tournament on Thursday, April 15.
