(Raleigh, NC) – The Shaw men's and women's tennis teams opened their home season Saturday splitting with Barton.
The Lady Bears (3-0) topped the Lady Bulldogs 5-4 on the strength of their top flight players. Their first through third singles won, as did their first and second doubles teams.
Top pair Fernanda Silva (left) and Livia Oliveira easily took their doubles match, 8-2, while Lolia Kienka and Evan Okafor were pushed, 8-6. Kienka, Silva and Oliviera also won their singles matches.
The Bears (1-2) were swept in doubles by Barton. Milos Stankovic, Kalada Kienka and Medhi Ben-cheikh won their singles matches. Stankovic and Kienka are both undefeated in singles play this season.
Both the men's and women's teams are back in action Thursday, March 4 when the Bears host Longwood at 1:00 p.m. and the Lady Bears host Slippery Rock at 3:00 p.m. Shaw's home tennis matches are played at Biltmore Hills Park at 2615 Fitzgerald Drive in Raleigh.
